Our programs include:
Waterabilities – Adaptive swim instruction and water safety training.
Cyclabilities – Teaching kids with disabilities how to ride a bike safely.
Defendabilities – Confidence and self-defence training for personal safety.
Shredabilities – Inclusive skateboarding for motor skills, balance & fun!
Danceabilities – Adaptive dance for expression and movement.
Teamabilities & Athletics – Modified team sports and track & field.

What’s the Role?
Position: Casual AUA Sports Instructor or Waterabilities Swim Instructor
Hours: Between 4-15 hours over weekends with continuous growth opportunities
Locations: Multiple locations across Canberra
Expected Start Date: Term 3 (26th July)

Qualifications Required

Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) Card
Current CPR Certification
Australian Recognised Swim Teacher Qualifications (only required for Waterabilities Swim Instructor Positions)
What is the Application Process

Once your application has been reviewed, we will reach out to you before the 3rd of June with further information. To be offered a position, applicants must pass all training requirements before being eligible to commence work with AUA.

Step 1: An online Information night:
The online Information night will cover details about AUA as an organisation, about the role and what the entire application and training process will cover.
When: 3rd, 4th, 5th, of June
Time: 5:30-6:30pm
Step 2: Online Child Safeguarding and Community Coaching Training
These two self-paced online courses provide essential knowledge in child safety and coaching.
Safeguarding in Sport Course (via Sport Integrity Australia).
Community Coaching Essentials (via Australian Sports Commission).
Commencement of these trainings will be after attending Step 1, and the completion certificates must be provided before commencing Step 3.
Step 3:Practical Face-to-Face Training
Learn inclusive instruction, adaptive coaching techniques, and communication, and program delivery strategies. This session focuses on:
Understanding inclusive teaching methods and how to adapt instruction for different needs.
Communication strategies for working with children who are neurodiverse, non-verbal, or have mobility challenges.
Waterabilties Training Dates
Date: 15th or 22nd of June
Time: 10am-12pm, may be subject to change.
Where: Cranleigh School 20 Starke Street Holt.
AUA Sports Instructor Training Dates
Date: 14th or 21st of June
Time: 10am-12pm, may be subject to change.
